Benefits of Doing Business in Portland

Benefits of Doing Business in Portland

I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck.
  Emma Goldman

Blossom your business in Portland, Oregon. Known as “The City of Roses” or PDX,  Portland is Oregon’s largest city.

The city beautifully balances the subtle art of big city and natural beauty. Take a drive from the bustling city center into Forest Park, covering more than 5,000 acres with lush, green wilderness.

The city is on the rise but its popularity and growth is still in it’s infancy. Start-up businesses, companies, and people are “getting in on the ground floor” to find success.

Why Portland?

Yes, it may rain 155 days of the year, but that rain water is nourishing the seeds of the future. Portland is rapidly becoming known as “Silicon Forest,” the green counterpart to it’s Californian cousin, Silicon Valley.

Portland ranked third in Forbes’ 2015 List of Best Places for Business and Careers. Its third place ranking increased a whopping 18 spots, due to an improved economic and employment climate. According to Forbes, The Portland economy is expected to boom over the next three years with an annual growth rate of 7.3%, second fastest in the U.S.,

It’s not the remote city that the East Coast think it is. In fact, the region’s workforce of one million is growing six time the national average.

Innovative people and communities call the Rose City headquarters, and rightfully so. The world’s most recognizable companies Intel, Nike and Columbia Sportswear have set up shop in the Rose City. The recognition of these global entities is creating more jobs, growth and awareness for small-businesses and start-ups.

But what really makes PDX so feasible? Livability and affordability, says Greater Portland, Inc. The area’s abundant natural beauty, mild climate, easy access to Portland International Airport, expansive public transportation system, wide variety of housing options and more make Greater Portland a superb place to work and live.

“Where Business and Quality of Life Don’t Compete”

Cost of living is affordable and salaries simply go farther. On paper, salaries read lower, but when paired with the low cost of living and cost of entertainment, social amenities, and more, the salary is more than acceptable.

Portland is even committing to a functional, feasible future with the 2020 project.

Greater Portland 2020 is an unprecedented, collaborative action plan for the Greater Portland of tomorrow. It’s an ambitious agenda, envisioned and created by over 40 public and private organizations throughout the region to pursue the future we want, not the future that’s handed to us.

Become part of a successful future that’s not filled with the worries of today, but the bright outlook of tomorrow! “Portlandia” may have helped facilitate the buzz, but it’s the businesses and people that are making business in Portland the Next Big Thing.

Get to Know Your Office with Print Assessments

admin : July 6, 2016 5:50 pm : Main Posts, Office Assessment, Portland, Print, Vancouver

“Print Assessment?” You squint at the screen.

We know, it’s not the most glamorous thing you’ve ever heard but it runs in your office’s veins. Printing can be the root to incredible success but it can also be the hidden root to a lost of unnecessary waste and cost.

Do you know how your office is operating? Do you know how many devices you have. When IT leaders were asked how many devices their offices had, an incredible 70% estimated incorrectly.

Take control of your print and your office with Champion Business Solutions!

Where To Start?

First thing is first.

Before an assessment, you need to know how your office is operating on a printing level. We have compiled a few questions that can help you get a feel for office and move towards the next step.

How many printers, copiers and MFPs do you have?

You need to get an exact number of devices. Depending on the size and layout of your business, you can segment devices per floor or office. Once you have the exact number of devices you’ll want to ask the following question…

How many brands of devices do you have?

Do you have one provider or several? Carrying supplies for too many brands can add up to a fortune. It may be time to stick to one brand.

How many people are there, per device? How far do people have to walk to get to a printer? Are there any “personal” printers?

It’s more than just knowing your printers, it’s knowing who they’re being used by. If there are too many employees to one device in one area of the office, and one printer per a few people, it’s time to rework your office so no employees are left in the dust.

Who You Gonna Call?

This isn’t the sort of call that Dr. Peter Venkman will answer, but Champion Business Solutions will!

You’ve got the answers to the questions about but now what? Now it’s time for a comprehensive print assessment.

Print assessments are often pushed aside for more seemingly pressing matters, but we’re telling you to schedule an assessment now! It’s vital to productivity and comprehensive processes for your office. You need only look at the statistics to see that there’s a big gap in knowledge when it comes to office environment. Analysts believe that over 50% of businesses can’t even assess their print environments. Without an assessment, you can’t find solutions or areas of opportunity.

It’s not all doom and gloom though! There’s light at the end of the tunnel and it’s called a Xerox Print Assessment. The first step to getting control of your workflows is just a call or click away. Comprehensive analytics will give your business answers in real-time with figures including:

  • Accurate representation of costs and workflow

Find Your ROI

admin : June 16, 2016 11:16 am : Main Posts, ROI

Know your costs and know your business!

By knowing your Return on Investment (ROI) you can determine the costs to produce graphics, the amount of print volume’s cost and price required to pay off the capital investment, and the amount of profit that can be seen at a monthly basis.

According to Xerox, “One of the most common reasons to calculate return on investment is to validate a proposal’s potential cost savings.”

ROI Calculation

ROI can be expressed in a simple formula: (Benefits – Costs)/Costs = ROI

You can use the ROI calculation to do more than validate savings, but also measure the impact of projects and productivity, IT infrastructure, competitive positioning, and/or reduce a project’s environmental impact.

So what is involved in an ROI calculation?

Gross Revenue

Gross revenue includes price per square foot that the printed piece is expected to sell for and adjusting “hours printing per day” value for volume of work shown or availability of staff to operate the printer.

This feature also allows you to input print speeds, wastage value, and other calculated values that are useful in determining how much blank substrate is required for a specific volume of work and what would be invoiced per month for the total printed work.

Material Costs

Material costs are just that; material. They include items such as:

  • Substrates and UV lamps
  • Substrate type and sheet size
  • Amount purchased
  • Vendor

Depending on all of these variables can affect the total cost considerably.

Overheads

Amount paid to operators per hour + Amount of time allocated to an operator to run the printer and conduct related tasks = Daily cost for the operator to run work on the printer. Calculating this gives you, both, the calculated monthly labor cost and combined monthly labor and materials cost.

Investment and Return

Additionally, Investment and Return includes the total amount of the printer purchase, as well as related items including:

  • Starter kits
  • Options and accessories
  • Training
  • Delivery and Installation

MIA ROI?

ROI calculators and its subsequent data is giving companies in every industry insights into their printing costs and identifying areas of opportunity. Assess and Deliver

admin : May 13, 2016 10:19 am : Main Posts, Office Assessment, Portland, Print, Vancouver

It doesn’t matter what size your business it; if you want to get output costs under control and set the stage for improvements in productivity and work process, you have to start with an assessment.” – Xerox

Assessments have always been a comprehensive way to measure how you’re doing, what you’re doing, and where to go from there. From our early school days to today’s business environment, assessments have provided an unbiased look at what you’re accomplishing.

Champion Business Solutions wants to help your business succeed, that’s why we are offering Office Assessments to local businesses. An office assessment is opening eyes to the wide world of printing. Just like any other business process, there are small nooks and crannies were waste can collect, including cost, workload, and low productivity.

Our team is scraping these impracticality’s from your agenda so you can start fresh!

Four Areas of Expertise

Office assessments are focused on four primary areas to get a cohesive look at your print environment; Management Process, Supplies, Device Proliferation, and Hidden Costs. Within these areas, Champion Business Solutions delves into opportunities in each sector, as well as possible solutions.

Our team is experienced with various print environments. In short, we’ve seen it all! We will work with your unique business to develop the right plan of attack. We understand that print extends long arms into other aspect of your office, that’s why our team ensures that everything is working correctly with your office equipment, IT areas, and overall network.

We understand that not everyone’s needs are the same. That’s why we also provide office assessments at four different levels depending on the size, workload, and environment in your office. Choose from a self guided web-based assessment, TCO and ROI-focused solution, all the way to a full-service, comprehensive solution.

Office Assessments in Action

Office assessments may not seem like a priority but they should be. Take Lincoln Schools, for example.

Lincoln Public School District in Lincoln, Nebraska had its work cut out for them. With 33,000 K-12 students, teachers and staff couldn’t spend their day worrying about printing. Between budget cuts, time restraints, and limited resources, the 52 members of staff in the IT department were beginning to feel the strain.

Cue Xerox.

Following a call and meeting, Xerox provided the Lincoln schools with a comprehensive office assessment that changed everything. Knowing exactly what they needed to print, how often, and when, Xerox was able to give successful and manageable recommendations.

Changes were implemented, time was spared, and by the end of it Lincoln Schools saved over half a million dollars compared to earlier savings!

This seemingly inconsequential office assessment saved this school district more than money, it relieved stress, boosted productivity, and gave teachers and staff time to focus on their students rather than their print room.

Imagine what an office assessment could do for your business…

Assess and Deliver

Champion Business Solutions is just a call or click away from transforming your office into a productive powerhouse. Sneak past the competition with the boost of Xerox quality and comprehension behind you. After all, everything starts with your foundation. Your office is the hub of everything you do; shouldn’t it be the best that it can be?

3 Reasons Print is Here to Stay

admin : April 5, 2016 5:35 pm : Main Posts

As we shift into a digital world, many people are ready to dismiss print entirely. Despite what naysayers are spreading, print is still here.

Print is adapting but it’s not disappearing.

Champion Business Solutions is here to tell you that it’s thriving. These three reasons are just the tip of the iceberg. Print spans generation. Consumers of all ages, while committed to digital devices, still like something they can hold and feel.

Legitimacy

Print is tangible and therefore bears more trust than any other medium. While the digital world may seem easier and more accessible, it’s over-saturated. The bombarding nature of ads and pop-ups has desensitized users. Make your customers remember you.

Targeted Audiences

Target your audience and make an impact on the customers you’re looking for. Expanding your marketing and advertising strategy into print material will establish a memorable and segmented ad that will get your business notices. Choose by demographics, interests, and deliver it directly to their door.

Engaging Materials

According to Forbes, “Consumers are more engaged when reading printed material, unlike websites, which are often skimmed in as little as a 15 second visit. A study shows that people read digital screen text 20% – 30% slower than printed paper.”

Simply put, we are more likely to remember information on a physical material. Print is unique because you can keep it, you can feel the gloss of the paper, raised text, and bright colors. Investing the time and money in your print can establish a wider reach for your audience and give them something to remember you by.

Get Started Today

Champion Business Solutions is just a call or click away from transforming your business into a productive, efficient powerhouse. Blow through the competition with the best tools in the business. If you find that your employees are spending more time trying to get the printer to work, or fussing with printer programs, it is probably time to invest in an office solution.

New Customer Service Initiatives from Xerox

admin : March 10, 2016 11:02 pm : Customer Service, Main Posts

Customer service is the foundation to every businesses success. It is the glue that hold services and products together. After all, that’s what it’s all about—the customer.

Xerox has identified the newest trends in customer service, and together we are working with businesses to create a full-service, easy, and pleasant experience. Are your best business practices taking consideration of customer service opportunities?

Make waves in your community by delivering the best products and providing the best service

Let’s Get Personal

People buy from who they like.

It’s as simple as that. The best way to provide exemplary customer service it to know who you’re selling to. In return, let your customer’s know who you are.

The easiest (and best) way to get personal with your peers is through the use of social media. Social media pages are a must-have for business today. Initial meetings take place through a screen today, and you want to make sure you are putting your best foot forward.

Facebook is a quick way to reach out to your audience and have them reach back. Encourage messages, inquiry, and make sure that you provide speedy, personal responses. Not only are you addressing their question, you’re reaching out towards them, customizing and tailoring your response to them. Social media pages are 24/7 platforms—a small price to pay for consistently great service.

It’s more than just social media, it’s mobility too!

According to HeyWire Business, a mobile messaging service, reports suggest that text messaging was users preferred way to interact with customer care. Additionally, 53% of respondents aged 18 to 34 preferred electronic media over traditional phone calls for customer service support.

There’s certainly power in numbers!

“Houston, do you read?”

In an ideal world you would be able to connect with your customer’s face-to-face. Unfortunately, we’re busy people and face-to-face interactions aren’t conducive to hectic schedules.

That doesn’t mean you still can’t make a great impression!

You may have noticed our chat pop-up in the bottom left hand corner. Website chats are a great way to always be there for your customers. That’s right, someone is ready to answer your questions.

You can implement chat functions on your website relatively easy. All it takes is a skilled web developer and some time!

Give Credit Where Credit’s Due

Great customer service interactions should always be rewarded. Encourage great customer service with incentives and fun competition.

Employees that consistently provide great customer service not only reap the benefits of a job well done, they also get to know the customers, develop a good relationship with them, and continue to provide excellent service!

Company-wide incentives will also drive fun competition among employees!

Taking Customer Service to the Next Level

Champion Business Solutions is just a call or click away from transforming your business into a productive, efficient powerhouse. Blow through the competition with the best tools in the business. If you find that your employees are spending more time trying to get the printer to work, or fussing with printer programs, it is probably time to invest in an office solution.

Little breaks aren’t frowned upon, in fact, they’re encouraged! Taking a small walk or chatting with coworkers can keep your mood up and positively influence your productivity.

However, if you find that you’re taking all your breaks trying to get your printer to work, then you’re only adding to stress. No one wants to spend minutes upon minutes fussing with a stubborn machine. The time that’s wasted at a printer is, on average, 3 minutes.

3 minutes can make or break your day. It can be the difference between being on time or late. 3 minutes can be time spent making coffee or getting home a little earlier. Champion Business Solutions wants to help you get back those 3 minutes. We are saving your time with efficient printing.

We don’t mean the afterlife, but from a distance! With Xerox, you can print directly from your Mobile app or your email. 7 Questions Your Office Needs Answers To in 2016

admin : December 23, 2015 12:17 pm : Main Posts, Managed Print Services, Office Assessment, Portland, Print, Vancouver

The Holidays are here and just beyond that is 2016! Champion Business Solutions is providing excellent New Year office solutions to local Portland and Vancouver offices. Before you invest in a new machine; we’re answering all of your questions.

How much should I pay for a new machine?

This depends on what your business needs, how large your workflow is, and of course, what’s your budget. We have a variety of printers that have various capabilities including copy, print, fax, and scan. You can spend in the low hundred or over a thousand depending on the features and work capacity that you need.

Not sure what your office needs? Give us a call for an office assessment. We analyze your print environment to identify areas of opportunities and cost-effective solutions

What’s the difference between copy machine speeds?

Copier speeds are sorted by six segments:

  • Segment 1 – 11-20 ppm
  • Segment 2 – 21-30 ppm
  • Segment 3 – 31-40 ppm
  • Segment 4 – 41-69 ppm
  • Segment 5 – 70-90 ppm
  • Segment 6 – 91+ ppm

Segments are a good guide to decide what would be the best fit for your company. We have a printer for all workloads. Whether you’re making simple black and white copies, or full-service color prints.

What are “multi-function devices”? Is there a difference between them and a regular copier or printer?

Multi-function devices have many more features than your average copier or printer. Multi-function printers (MFPs) have copy, print, fax, and scan capabilities, as well as increased ppm and functionality.

I mostly print in black and white but occasionally like to make color copies, what should I do?

Consider how much time you spend on color prints and what the future looks like for your business. Color is an eye-catcher, increases retention, and leaves an impression on readers, customers, and coworkers. We have a selection of simple color devices that may be a good fit for your company.

We have five people in our office and we don’t make a ton of copies, what would our best options be?

Black and White printers are relatively inexpensive but still pack a punch for those days when you have a high workload. With an office assessment done by our professionals, we can find out what your print environment looks like and find a solution for you! We also provide inexpensive leasing for businesses that do not print/copy a lot.

What are the most important things I need to know about finding a copier/printer/MFP?

Finding office equipment for your business doesn’t have to be an arduous task. Champion Business Solutions is here to help you through everything you need to know. Service contracts are a big part of finding a machine. The fine print can be daunting but our staff will go through everything with you so you can rest assured that you know what to expect. Always ask questions if you have any concerns regarding your machine. We are dedicated to you and your business’s success.

What features should I consider for my device?

Depending on the make and model you choose, you can explore the luxury of options. Machines can have various paper tray sizes, capacities, sorting and finishing options ranging from simple (multiple bins and stapled copies) to bin-free sorting (documents set at right angles to separate them) and folding, three-hole-punches and much more!

Find the right fit for your business with Champion Business Solutions!

Going Green for the Holidays

admin : November 30, 2015 5:30 pm : Energy Efficiency, Main Posts, Portland, Print, Vancouver

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

Tinsel and trees are popping up all over the nation. Windows are being decorated with snowflakes, jingle bells, and while the green is disappearing from outdoors, replaced with frost and snow, there is plenty of green to be seen indoors.

Going green seems to be more than a traditional holiday decoration, though. It’s becoming a vital component of our everyday. Why not go green in the office as well!

We are all printing advocates but it’s no secret that there needs to be a sizable shift towards a sustainable printing future. In our technological day and age, it’s not what you print but how you print it. Champion Business Solutions is is taking active steps towards a greener future and we are bringing you with us so that we can all contribute to a green, energy efficient future.

Responsibility is a large part of our commitment to a sustainable and green initiative. According to a 2009 study by the Print Industries Market Information and Research Organization, printing’s greatest impact on the environment is from paper—both production and subsequent waste generated in the printing process.

PRIMIR reports that the paper industry is the fourth largest emitter of greenhouse gases among U.S. manufacturing industries, and contributes 9% of total carbon dioxide emissions from manufacturing processes. The paper industry is the second largest user of electricity in the United States, at 75 billion kilowatt hours in 2006. This has only increased in recent years.

Not to put a damper on the holiday spirit. As the old saying goes, where there’s a will, there’s a way. The print industry all over the world is taking our environment and sustainability serious with Green initiatives and alternatives. Together we are making a considerable difference in printing.

What we print, when we print, and how we print.

Want to include your business in the green initiative? Would you like to establish an energy efficient New Year Resolution for 2016. There are a number of things you can do for your equipment and around the office to make a positive impact towards your printing environment.

  • Buying ENERGY STAR® and eco-label certified devices
  • Use intelligent software to manage energy use
  • Reduce paper usage with default two-sided (duplex) printing
  • Use Cartridge-free, solid ink
  • Take a part in take-back and recycling programs

There is a sustainable future in printing thanks to your support and corporate responsibility. Take part in the Xerox Green World Alliance and help us save even more! This program is dedicated to reusing and recycling various parts and supplies from office equipment. Since its beginning, the Green World Alliance has had more than 2.7 million cartridges and toner containers returned. Become part of a green movement.

At Champion Business Solutions, we take Going Green very seriously! Find out what else you can do to help here.
